Author School Visits with Crystal
Thank you for considering inviting me to your school, homeschool group, or organization!
School visits are a literary adventure—a bright spot in the schedule that enhances learning and sparks imagination. Author visits bring the excitement of a field trip without lining up buses or transportation, because I come to you. I’m honored to bring that excitement to your students through lively read-alouds, behind-the-scenes looks at my creative process, and interactive Q&A sessions.
I offer both in-person and virtual visits for grades PreK–8, with four unique program options designed to inspire a love of reading, creativity, and storytelling.
*Special Booking Incentive: Every organization that books a visit with a signed contract will receive both of my Lucy books, a stuffed Lucy, and a week-long curriculum that corresponds with Lucy’s Home.

Program Options
-
Lucy’s Home Storytime with Q&A (PreK–5th Grade)
An engaging read-aloud of Lucy’s Home followed by a fun, interactive Q&A session. Students learn about the inspiration for the book, the writing process, and the joy of storytelling. -
Creating Hometown Adventures with Lucy (2nd–5th Grade)
A hands-on storytelling workshop where students imagine Lucy visiting their own town or school. Together we brainstorm favorite landmarks, fun traditions, and local treasures—and turn them into an exciting new Lucy adventure. -
Illustrating Lucy’s Home: The Story Behind the Art (3rd–8th Grades)
A behind-the-scenes look at how Lucy’s Home was illustrated—from first sketches to final pages. Students discover how art and words work together to tell a story, and they even try their hand at a quick illustration exercise. -
Meet the Author (All School Ages)
A “day in the life of an author” presentation that gives students a fun, realistic look at what it means to be a writer and illustrator. This session includes Q&A and works well for career days or general assemblies. -
Chapel Service: “Does God Hear Me When I Pray?” (All School Ages)
A faith-filled chapel message that helps students understand God hears them—no matter their age or circumstances. This talk encourages prayer, trust, and a personal walk with God.
Rates (2025–2026)
I believe every school should have the opportunity to bring stories to life for their students. My standard fee is $100 per presentation (in-person or virtual), but I am happy to work with your budget to best serve your students and staff.
For in-person visits beyond an hour from Lake Charles, Louisiana, travel fees may apply (IRS mileage rate or airfare + lodging if needed).
Ordering Books
Pre-signed copies of my books and merchandise are available for students and staff during in-person visits. Order forms will be provided in advance so families can pre-order and receive their books on the day of the event.

FAQ
1. What can students expect during an author visit?
During a standard Lucy's Home visit, Crystal shares an interactive and lively reading of Lucy’s Home. After the reading, the school’s librarian or representative reads the comprehension questions. Crystal then opens the floor for a Q&A session, where students can ask questions about writing, storytelling, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how the books were created. If materials have been purchased, those are handed off to the teachers and classes are dismissed.
2. How long does the author visit usually last?
Each session typically lasts about 30 minutes, allowing time for reading, discussions, and questions. Crystal can adjust the length based on the type of program, school’s schedule, and the age of the students.
3. What age group is the presentation best suited for?
Please refer to the description of each program to find age range.
4. Do you show the students how to make A.I. illustrations?
Yes! Crystal can discuss how she created her illustrations and instruct them on how they can make theirs.
5. Can we purchase signed copies of the books during the visit?
Absolutely! Crystal can arrange pre-orders and bring signed copies for students to purchase. Order forms will be provided in advance to make the process smooth and easy.
6. How can we prepare students for your visit?
Telling the students about the author visit and sending home information about Lucy’s Home beforehand is a great way to build excitement.
7. What are some key themes you cover in your books?
Both books explore themes of family, community, hope, and love. Crystal enjoys discussing these themes with students and helping them relate to their own lives.
8. Do you charge a fee for school visits?
Yes, there is a fee for visits and those are listed above. However, if the cost presents a challenge for your school's budget, please feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to discuss options and see how we might make it work.
9. What materials are needed for a school visit?
Crystal needs at least one table and a volunteer who is familiar with the students. Pre-order forms should be sent out to families one month prior to the visit date.
10. How far in advance should we book a visit?
Booking at least two months in advance is recommended to ensure availability, especially during peak times.
